Termite Control

Termites are often called “White Ants”, probably because their shape, size and social habits could easily be mistaken for ants. They are in fact part of the order Blattodea, which is the same family as the cockroach.

The population of a termite colony can number well into the millions. The nests can take on various forms, with some mound nests visible on the ground and other termite species nests can be built way up in trees. Some nests are subterranean (underground) and almost impossible to find.

Are the chemicals used to treat termites toxic to children and pets?

SAYFER technicians only use the safest, latest and fully tested products available.  The treatments we use in your home are also used in hospitals, schools, childcare centres and other sensitive areas.  The SAYFER team is available for you to discuss any treatment with you in advance of your appointment.

What are the signs I have termites?

Some signs to look out for include: the timber sounds hollow or you see small holes in the wood; doors and windows are hard to open and close; you notice tunnels in broken timber; you see white coloured ants, or you hear clicking noises.  Don’t forget to keep an eye on your garden fences and decking as well.  Termites can be a serious problem and cost thousands of dollars’ worth of damage.  Don’t panic and do not disturb the termites if you have found them in your home.  It’s worth taking a couple of days to research before taking action.

How do you treat termites?

The SAYFER team of technicians use non-repellent low toxicity chemicals that act slowly.  Not only is this good safe practice but we don’t want to use a chemical that is too strong that the termites die too quickly.  The Termidor foam applied to the workings should not begin to affect the termites for at least 2-3 days.  The termites are impacted by the foam directly or contaminated by the foam while using the galleries.  This will allow the termites to share the treatment amongst fellow colony members before dying.  Therefore, eradicating the full nest.

What methods are available to treat termites?

Termite Foaming Treatment

The aim of any foaming treatment is to treat as many worker termites with Termidor foam without disturbing them.  The more galleries or the more termites foamed, the higher chance the treatment will be a success.

Above Ground Termite Baiting

Direct feeding a termite infestation is a good way of ensuring the elimination of a termite infestation.  The drawback of baiting termite activity is that it can become a timely process.  The Termite treatment cost can soon add up.  The process of baiting is to feed the termite nest a mixture of cellulose (an ingredient in timber) with a non-toxic chemical.  The Termites exposed to the termite bait are unable to form a normal exoskeleton.  Then when it comes time for the termites to mould or shed they die.

Do I need to call to rebook another service?

Yes, you will need to call if the operator hasn’t booked a specific time to return.

How often should I have my house checked for pests?

Generally, a yearly inspection for termites and other pests is the best way to minimise pest infestations from developing. Depending on the type of pest and environment, more regular treatments may be required.

I think I might have termites, should I spray them first?

NO! We do not want the active termites to be disturbed, this if for a few reasons, if we know where they are, we can quickly and easily assess the best white ant treatment option for them. If they are disturbed, they may retreat, or they may just move to another area of the house, making removal more difficult.

Our SAYFER Termite Inspection Reports

We only use report formats which meet Australian standards and are approved by our insurers. Our report details the areas inspected, the observations of the technician, the termite risk level and finally, recommendations to minimise that risk.

If we find termites, don’t worry you are in good hands. Our pest controllers will:

Thoroughly assess and determine the full extent of the infestation and any resultant damage.

Take all practical steps to locate the termite entry points – locating the entry point is not always achievable given most termite entry is concealed but, if it can be found, it can be sealed to stop future entry.

Precisely identify the termite species – knowing and understanding the habits of the species allows for more effective, long term termite control.

After we’ve located and identified the termites, we’ll provide you a full assessment of our findings.

Our job isn’t done just yet. We’ll give you detailed advice on the treatment options we would suggest for you current termite situation.

It’s time for us to carry out the treatments to our strict quality standards and specifications that we stand behind with all of us customers.
