SAYFER Integrated Pest Management

Integrated Pest Management

Integrated pest management is very important to us at SAYFER. Integrated pest management is not simply spraying or using more chemicals when a severe infestation of pests is present. It also means solving some of the issues that could be contributing to the pest problem. Have one of our licensed pest technicians conduct a free on-site assessment & quote. Experts in Pest Management

When a SAYFER pest management technician is working with our clients it is not just the application of the chemicals that the technician is an expert in. Our technicians will approach the situation with a combination of measures to ensure a long-term solution is achieved, not just control of a problem. This is one of the main reasons why our clients love our integrated pest management approach.

Another reason is this will reduce the need for excessive use of pesticides.  The days of blanket spraying toxic chemicals to excess should be over. A thorough inspection followed by accurate and targeted treatments with the lowest toxicity chemicals available is how it should be done.  When it comes to external pest management, we are in the Business of treating pests, not killing every insect in sight.

It is also clear that the use of pesticides is not always enough to solve a pest problem.  Our technicians have an intimate familiarity with the ecologies of the pests that we treat.  This is where expert advice is important. Working together with our clients to manage pest problems is our key to success.

The more ways you approach a pest problem the better. Here are three of our main methods of Integrated Pest Management.

Physical Pest Management

Pests can enter buildings in a variety of ways. One of the obvious ways that pests can enter buildings is simply through open doors and windows. This is why Australian homes and buildings mostly have fly screens on doors and windows. Fly screens in good condition will stop a variety of pests from entering. A small tear in a screen can allow a surprising amount of flys and mosquitos into your home.

Filling cracks and crevices is a huge advantage to eliminate pest harbourages.  (particularly in commercial kitchens). Filling cracks and crevices or using materials to cover these types of areas can eliminate perfect nesting areas for cockroaches, bedbug,  rats, mice, birds and other pests.

Environmental Pest Management

Environmental conditions can be changed to make conditions less favourable to pests.  Most pests enjoy hot humid conditions, particularly termites. If you have a damp humid subfloor with rotted timber on the ground, you could be asking for trouble.   Improving hygiene, sanitation and storage of food can dramatically improve the number of pests you attract. Ensuring equipment and bins are stored up off of the floor is a great idea. Our technicians at SAYFER are trained to spot issues in and around the most well maintained of  buildings and solve the problem before it gets worse.

Chemical Pest Management

Targeted use of the least toxic pesticides available is an important part of preventing pests from entering buildings and eliminating existing infestations. Many pesticides have a broad spectrum of pests that they are effective on. Therefore, they can be hazardous to a wide range of other living organisms. It is essential that the pesticides we use in the pest management industry is used in a safe and targeted manner. Therefore, minimising the risk to clients non target organisms like pests and beneficial insects.

The chemicals that are used by SAYFER are mostly synthetic pyrethroids. Synthetic pyrethroids are a synthetic version of naturally occurring pyrethrin that derive from chrysanthemum flowers. At SAYFER Pest Management we believe in safe practices. This means we follow all legislation and guidelines to ensure the safety of our staff and clients. Even the most environmentally friendly and safe products require the area to be unoccupied during the treatment process until the pesticide is dry. When the pesticide is dry it is completely safe and active.

The residual treatments last for up to 12 months in residential situations and less in commercial situations. The period of time the treatments stay active on surfaces depends on the level of infestation and frequency of cleaning in the treated areas. The key to success is to minimise the frequency of visits needed to manage and prevent the pest infestations.
